Houghton Winery – The Suggested Swan Valley Wines

I don’t know about you, but I actually think extensively about the wine I am going to drink in my “me” time, the movie night with my boyfriend, or what am I going to serve for the friends’ gathering at my house. And don’t get me started on cold winter nights in front of the fireplace; in those cases wine is a-must, and I choose it with the utmost attention.

Here’s a friendly suggestion to all of you fellow oenophiles to whom wine means more than just a simple alcoholic drink: when you are facing the dilemma what to choose for special occasions like the above mentioned ones, just type Houghton winery on your search browser and choose some of its heavenly-like wines; once you taste them, you will be pleasantly surprised by all the sophistication and incredible taste.

For those of you who are not yet familiar with it, Houghton is a famous Australian winery based in Swan Valley, Western Australia. What is interesting and intriguing at the same time about this region, is that the soil is rich and fertile, which is not common for the Perth region where Swan Valley is located. Adding the fact that there is an abundance of citrus, strawberries, asparagus, melons, grapes and stone fruits, only supports the reality that Houghton winery produces some attention-deserving wines. The ones I strongly suggest you try will change your opinion on good wine: it should be easy to drink so that it does not make you dizzy but happy, and it should be a very good company for food:

  1. Houghton Cabernet Sauvignon – one bold red this is; with loads of cassis and a scent of cigar box, this Cabernet Sauvignon smells pretty attractive. The dark red colour indicates the presence of dark plum flavours and upon tasting it you will feel a touch of oak. If you made roasted meat for dinner, this is its perfect companion.
  2. Houghton Semillon – when you look at it, it is a brilliant, bright and vibrantly coloured wine. The aroma of this Houghton wine consists of gooseberry flavours, tropical fruits and added notes of freshly cut hay and pea pods. Its palate is fine, long and balanced with a zesty lemon finish. This is an amazing choice if you have roasted chicken made with a lot of roasted vegetables as a side dish.
  3. Houghton Chardonnay  you haven’t tried a Chardonnay of this kind for sure! This is one gorgeous mixture of flavours; its aroma will trick you into thinking you are only sensing guava, peach and citrus. Perfect with grilled fish.
  4. Houghton Verdelho – you will recognize it by its light straw colour which is quite specific. The aroma of the Verdelho consists of sensing tropical pineapple, lychee and pear notes, as well as nuances of lemongrass spice. This is a wine with a very finely balanced acidity, which means it is great for your “me” time – you will not fall asleep fast! The palate of this wine is fresh, sweet and full-flavoured. Prepare some seafood for dinner, put on a good movie and you have the perfect movie night.
