Doll Eyelashes: Step-by-Step Guide to Applying Falsies

You can have the best makeup in the world, glowy skin, luscious lips, and perfect eyebrows, but nothing can enhance your look like big, dramatic false eyelashes. They give eyes the depth and shape that a simple mascara can’t.

And while no one wears falsies every day (shout out to girls who do, you’re queens!), now and then, when you do feel like adding a bit of drama and glamour to your life, you should spice up your makeup with a pair of doll eyelashes. Online, in drugstores, specialised makeup stores – they all have all sorts of lengths, colours, and shapes of falsies. It’s up to you what you’ll choose.

However, before sticking the falsies on your eyelids, you should do know a few things.

Prepare Your Natural Eyelashes

First things first. Your natural eyelashes should be prepared. What does this mean? Don’t worry, you don’t have to give them special treatment or anything like that. You just need to use a lash curler to lift your natural lashes a bit. If this isn’t what you normally do, then go to your regular routine. Even though you’ve found the perfect doll eyelashes to create cat eyes, don’t forget to add some mascara.

Apply a coat or two in a manner just like you always do. It shouldn’t be perfect since there will be the falsies, but make it even and brush your lashes well. This is done to lift your natural lashes and to give them a darker colour, so they don’t make a visible contrast from the falsies.

Prepare the Falsies

Once you open the box with the false eyelashes, gently remove them. You will notice that they are sticky. You don’t have to clean this at all (the lashes are stuck to the plastic box that resembles eyelids, to stay in shape so you can easily put them on. Take the lashes with both hands and gently wiggle them to create a C-shape. This will curve them so they can fit your eyelids better.

Cut the Outside Part

Before adding the glue, make sure to measure the false lash onto your eyelid. Most of them will be a bit longer than your eyelid. Placing the eyelashes with their full length onto your eyelids will only make your eye look droopy. Even if you use beautiful doll eyelashes for a cat-eye look, you will achieve the total opposite.

So, take your index finger and place it on the outer corner of the false lash. Take scissors and cut off this part. If the size of your index finger seems like a lot, just cut off a smaller part. Just make sure to leave a long piece of hair for the very end, so your eyes can appear upward.

Don’t Apply Too Much Glue

Now, the glue. If this is your first time applying false eyelashes, you may feel the urge to add a lot of glue on them, believing that it will help them to stick better. You don’t need extra glue for this. The key is to add an even coat of glue on the entire strip. So, it should be enough; add glue so it can be visible, but it doesn’t have to drip down. Too much glue will take a longer time to dry and that is certainly a downfall. Waiting for it to dry will take some time, and if you apply it on your eyelid you will not be able to stick the lash where you want, so it can move in all directions, smearing your makeup and ruining the look you want.

Don’t Rush to Apply Them Before the Glue is Dry

Another thing to keep in mind when adding the glue on your false eyelashes is that you shouldn’t rush to put them on once you add them. The secret to a successful application of your doll like lashes is to wait for the glue to dry. This doesn’t take a long time – about twenty seconds.

Once you apply the glue, blow gently onto the lashes to help the glue dry. It should become tacky (you can check with your little finger (touch a small part). If it is tacky, it’s time to take your tweezers or the lash applicator tool and place them onto your eyelids. First, press the lash strip onto the middle of your eye, and then press the outer corners. Make sure to add the false eyelash as close to your natural lash as possible.

When buying the glue, you will notice that there is various colour – black, white, and see-through. The colour won’t change much for you, since all of them when dry become invisible. However, it’s safer to work with black or see-through glue, if you want things to be less messy.

Even if there is any visible glue residue on your lashes (no matter the colour) you can easily touch it up by adding a bit of extra eyeliner or eye shadow.
