The Suggested Ways Tower Cranes Are Raised And Brought Down – Part 1

Construction cranes are an indispensable piece in the construction industry and in the manufacturing of the heavy machinery. Usually temporary structures, the construction cranes can be mounted on a specific vehicle or can be fixed to the ground for greater stability. The cranes are equipped with cables and pulleys and are able to lift and lower very heavy materials that are almost impossible to lift with other machines. They are controlled from an operator’s cabin which is equipped with a control station or/and radio commands. The operators of cranes are responsible safe operation of the crane and for the safety of other workers on the construction site. There are many types of cranes used in the construction, but one of the most common crane easily found on the market is the tower crane for sale.

The tower crane is the most commonly used in the construction industry, as it is able to lift and move large objects. The tower crane is fixed to the ground and provide the best combination of lifting and height capacity, which makes them extremely efficient in the construction of tall buildings. The form of a typical tower crane for sale is an uneven letter “T”. The base of the tower crane is fixated to the ground with concrete, which thickness varies depending on the weight and height of the tower crane. For increased stability of the tower crane base, bolts are used to fasten and extend the base into the ground. Also, the bolts keep the tower crane well supported and reduce the risk of a collapse.

After the base had been secured, it is connected with a mast section to give the tower crane its height. When the mast section or sections are added, a slewing unit is attached to provide the crane with the ability to rotate. The slewing unit has three parts:

  • a long horizontal jib
  • an operator’s cabin
  • a short horizontal arm.

The longer horizontal jib carries the load in and out from the center of the crane, using the means of the trolley, which goes along this jib. The shorter horizontal arm contains the motors and electronics of the tower crane and a large, concrete counter-weights.

The raising of a tower crane for sale is a bit expensive, because of the many safety precautions which must be followed in order to prevent injuries or collapsing of the tower crane. In tall or complex buildings, the tower of the tower crane may be left in place, becoming a permanent part of the construction site. Raising tower cranes in Australia costs anywhere from $20,000 to $60,000, depending on factors such as height, weight, time for raising, used materials, etc.
